Rock Cave Munnar- The Hidden Gem in Munnar

Munnar is a beautiful hill station in the Idukki district, Kerala. It is a popular tourist destination with beautiful tea gardens and pristine mountains and valleys.

Malayil Kallan Guha is the Malayalam  name meaning Upon the Mountain Thief Cave. The cave has an interesting story, many years ago, a thief called Malayil Kallan lived in the cave and used to loot travelers passing through on the road between Munnar and Thekkady.

It is speculated in ancient times, saints used the cave for meditation and prayers.

Rock cave is opposite Lock Heart Gap which has a breathtaking view of Munnar and the surrounding mountains and valley.

Rock Cave on Gap Road is a popular tourist spot. You enter and explore the cave, which is large enough for a person to stay inside.

How to Reach Rock Cave Munnar

If you are staying at Munnar, you can go by bus, hire a cab or ride your car to visit the Rock Cave. The nearest railway station is Aluva Railway Station is 120.7 km from Malayil Kallan Guha. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport is 120.5 km from Rock Cave. Rock Cave is located at Madurai National Highway near  Mattupetty in Munnar

Things to do near Rock Cave Munnar

Tourists can explore the cave by going inside and enjoying the breathtaking view of the valley and mountains from Lock Heart Gap. You can purchase tea, coffee, juices, and some homemade snacks at a refreshment store near the cave.

Timing and Entry Fee

Malayil Kallan Guha does not have a specific time, but we recommend you visit it during the day. There is no entry fee to the cave. However  Rock Cave Munnar is permanently closed now.
