Nearest airport from Munnar is Cochin International airport which is just 125 kilometers away from this beautiful place. Taxi services are also available from the airport to Munnar and usually cost Rs 3000. Cochin airport is well-linked to all the major cities in the country as well as many cities abroad. From Cochin International airport bus & taxi services are also available to reach Munnar. PrepaidTaxis charge a to and fro rate from the airport, so it might be on the costlier side. The other important airport is in Madurai.

How to Reach Munnar By Train
Munnar is not situated in the rail route and therefore no direct trains run in the town. The Nearest Railway station is at Aluva situated approximately 110 kms apart from Munnar. Most of the trains have stoppages at this Aluva station. There are taxi & bus stands at the station available for visiting Munnar with minimal fares. Another station close to is Angamaly, but Aluva has got bigger stations & more stoppages.
Ernakulam is the major station near Munnar. It is a major junction in the south from where you can get trains for the major cities of the country including Delhi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Mangalore, Bangalore and many others and Ernakulam station is approximately 130 kms away. It has got two railway stations, Ernakulam Junction (South) and Ernakulam Town (North). The stations in Ernakulam are one of the major railway stations in Kerala & have got high graded stations in Southern Railways.
If time is the factor then Aluva is the better option as Munnar is closer as compared to Ernakulam. Taxi fare from Aluva is Rs. 2000/- (approx) while from Ernakulam is Rs. 2500/-(approx), so Aluva is relatively cheaper as well. All the taxis are available on pre-paid basis near stations. Although Aluva serves to be the nearest station for local commute, Ernakulam connects Munnar with major metropolis of India, like, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc. The roads connecting Munnar to Kochi, Ernakulam and Aluva have a great upkeep and are maintained by the State as well as Central Governments.
