The bridge was built using granite and surkhi, a reason that it has survived natural calamities, including the 1961 and 2018 floods. It stands firm on six pillars, out of which only four are visible to the crowd. There are five arches on top, and this suspension is built uniquely. When a heavy vehicle crosses over, its weight is lifted on the arches.

New Update on the Neriamangalam Bridge

The ancient Neriamangalam Bridge is undergoing a transformation for the first time. A new bridge will be constructed nine meters downstream from the existing one. It will be:

214 m long

13 m wide

Include five spans

The first phase involves the piloting work for the pillars. One of the main reasons for this renovation is the traffic jams caused on the bridge. If two heavy goods vehicles pass each other, they are able to move ahead with incredible difficulty. Therefore, a new bridge is in the works to solve this problem.

ALSO SEE- Munnar Travel Guide-Everything You Should Know About Munnar

What is Special About the Neriamangalam Bridge?

Although just a bridge, it serves as a quick breakpoint for travellers.
