What to know about Mattupetty Dam in Munnar<\/h3>\n

Mattupetty dam was constructed in late 1940 under the Pallivasal<\/a> Hydro-electric project. This dam is now a crucial source of electricity generation in Munnar. This is an important source of water for animals and birds. Rivulets and cascades criss-cross the terrain that adding more beauty and attraction to this place. The dam is also a great place to spot elephants as this reservoir is their favourite spot to drink water.<\/p>\n

Mattupetty is also famous for its Indo Swiss Livestock Project. It is also called a cattle village as hundreds of high yielding breeds of cattle are reared here. Hundreds of high quality bred cattle grazing freely in lush green meadows is a unique view. This unique site is about 3 km from the dam and is handled by the Kerala Livestock Development and Milk Marketing Board.<\/p>\n

Mattupetty dam is open for a visit for all days of the week. It doesn\u2019t remain closed for tourists on any day. Timing for visit is from 9:30 a.m. in the morning till 5:30 p.m. in the evening.<\/p>\n

Entry fees are Rs. 10\/- per person. Fees for boating and speed boating vary as per choice.<\/p>\n
